Some iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users are having battery life issues, MacRumors reports, citing recent posts on Reddit, Apple's support pages, and the MacRumors forum.

A number of people say the problem crops up when the phones are in standby mode, "suggesting a background activity could be causing problems for some users," MacRumors says. It can be hard to quantify exactly how much an average iPhone 16 uses at rest; different applications burn through battery life at different rates while a device is on standby, meaning almost every iPhone user has a different rate of power burn.

Battery life is always a chief concern for people when upgrading their phones. The iPhone 16 has a 3,561mAh battery, an increase of 6.3% in capacity compared with the iPhone 15. In our tests, the iPhone 16 lasted 17 hours and 47 minutes, a notable improvement over the iPhone 15, which lasted 16 hours in the same test.

Some people on older iPhones are also complaining about battery drains once they installed iOS 18. A few report that the battery problems disappeared when they upgraded to either iOS 18.0.1 or the iOS 18.1 beta.

If upgrading to iOS 18.1 fixes the issue, then users will likely not have long to wait. According to Bloomberg, iOS 18.1 launches on Oct. 28 and will include Apple intelligence.

Apple has not officially commented on the battery issue, but iOS 18.0.1 addressed a variety of bugs, including a touch-screen issue, a glitch that would cause the Messages or Camera app to crash under certain conditions, and memory allocation issues.
